Hi, I’m Erika Budson.
Being a human being is challenging…
It’s a truly complex experience with many layers. Yet I believe that we hold within ourselves the seeds of growth.
As a therapist, my services are geared towards the development of awareness and self-compassion, grounded in the present moment to nurture that growth. I counsel teens and adults who are struggling with trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and life transitions including grief and loss.
Having grown up in Detroit in a multiracial family of creative people, I am also well-suited to clients who live in marginalized spaces - as we face unique challenges from mainstream society. These can be a result of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, size, hidden and obvious disabilities, class, as well as the multiple other ways people experience discrimination. And there are many.
Receiving therapy to give therapy…
From my perspective, an effective therapist is willing to courageously and compassionately accompany each client into the depths of pain and darkness. My own experience with therapy enlightened me on this point. I was incredibly fortunate to find a caring and empathetic therapist who was prepared to go to those difficult places with me. She has since become an inspirational teacher and mentor. Through her, I’ve observed what it means to be compassionate and fully present for those who have lost hope or for whom the sliver of light that represents hope is barely perceptible. As such, my sincerest wish is that I can sit with each person and embody that same place of non-judgment and compassion that I needed, deserved, and received.
